Statement from Governor Regarding Tragic Events in Wisconsin

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | Office of the Governor | Date Posted: Thursday, August 9, 2012

Wilmington, DE – Secretary of Transportation Shailen Bhatt will be sharing the following thoughts from the Governor at the candlelight vigil being hosted by the Sikh Center of Delaware tonight to mark the tragic events in Wisconsin.

“Tolerance, acceptance and peace are core values that transcend any individual religion. We must make clear that those values are stronger – and more widely shared – than the hatred, bigotry and ignorance that created this senseless violence. We are a nation founded on the ideas of opportunity and freedom – including the freedom of worship. They remain our bedrock,” Markell said. “Carla and I will keep in our prayers everyone affected. We ask that everyone keep in mind in this, our great state of neighbors, that we are so much stronger together.”
