Dover – A total of eighty-eight (88) people were arrested statewide last week for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs. Of those 88 individuals, eleven (11) were arrested at Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI checkpoints over the Labor Day weekend. Statewide, there have been 2,823 DUI arrests made in Delaware this year.
DUI checkpoints and enforcement will continue into September. They are scheduled for:
Friday September 6 – Newark – (NCCo DUI Task Force)- checkpoint
Friday September 13 – Wilmington – (NCCo DUI Task Force)- checkpoint
Saturday September 14 – Bethany Beach (DSP) – checkpoint
Checkpoint Strikeforce is a regional sobriety checkpoint campaign aimed at arresting DUI offenders, by using high visibility enforcement to deter those who would otherwise choose to drink and drive. The campaign, a six month long effort running through New Year’s Eve, involves setting up weekly DUI checkpoints statewide.
