Football fan misses $100K Sports Lottery Parley win by one game

Dover, DE – Just two weeks into the official start of this year’s football season, one area football fan has already come close to winning the Delaware Sports Lottery’s $100,000 Parlay Card, says Delaware Lottery Director Vernon Kirk.

Over 4,500 of the $5 parlay cards were played throughout the state prior to the Week 2 NFL games. As of Sunday evening one lucky player had picked 14 out of 15 games correctly against the point spread, leaving $100,000 at stake in last night’s Indianapolis Colts versus Philadelphia Eagles game.

To win the parlay the Colts had to beat the Eagles by more than three points. Unfortunately, we now know that didn’t happen.

“It definitely looked like Delaware had a winner when the Colts were up by 14 midway through the third quarter,” says Kirk. “Then to have the Eagles rally like that – and to win in the last three seconds of the game – it was agonizing to watch when you knew one player was so close to such a big payout.”

The odds of winning the Delaware Sports Lottery’s $100,000 Parlay Card are roughly 32,000 to one; however, each year Delaware has several players come close. In 2011, a 34-year-old football fan from Camden, NJ, won after the Eagles beat the Washington Redskins at the same time the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Houston Texans.

“The $100,000 card is very popular with our Sports Lottery players,” said Delaware Secretary of Finance Tom Cook. “For $5 it’s fun for sports fans to see how close they can get to winning 15 of 15 games. But with so many people only a game or two away so often, we’re pretty sure someone is going to win the $100,000 again soon. It’s just a matter of who and when.”
