Governor’s Weekly Message: Improving Quality of Life with New Trails and Pathways

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | Kent County | New Castle County | Sussex County | Date Posted: Friday, November 4, 2016

Wilmington, DE – In his weekly message, Governor Markell marks the final phase of construction of the Industrial Track Trail, part of the more than 50 miles of new trails and pathways as part of a statewide initiative launched under his administration. While raising Delaware ranking among the most bikeable states from 31st to the third, the effort is making Delaware also helping attract new visitors and residents, while providing more options for transportation and for living a healthy lifestyle.

“This week we marked the beginning of construction on the final link of the New Castle Industrial Track Trail, a critical segment of the 3,000-mile East Coast Greenway,” Governor Markell said. “That improves the quality of life while supporting healthier, more active lifestyles, and cleaner forms of transportation. That’s important for our economy and for realizing the potential of our state, and that will keep Delaware moving forward.”

Every week, the Governor’s office releases a new Weekly Message in video, audio, and transcript form. The message is available on:
