W.B. Simpson student takes home the green with Delaware grown cabbage

W.B. Simpson Elementary School 4th grader Latrell McGinnis spent last spring tending to his cabbage in hopes of growing the best-looking cabbage in Delaware. After all the judging was completed, McGinnis’s hard work paid off when he was announced as the state winner during a presentation at his school this week.




DFA Annual Meeting on March 19 is Canceled

The 2020 Delaware Forestry Association Annual Meeting and Banquet will be held on Thursday, March 19 at the Felton Fire Hall in Felton, Delaware. The event features the presentation of the 2020 “Delaware Tree Farmer of the Year Award.” Cost is $27 for adults and $13.50 for children ages 6 to 12.  Details at  delawareforest.com




Delaware opens registration for 2020 domestic hemp program

Following up on the recent announcement of USDA’s approval of Delaware’s Domestic Hemp Production Program, the Delaware Department of Agriculture released their registration materials online Friday, February 7.




Delaware second state on east coast for USDA hemp plan approval

The Delaware Department of Agriculture announced today that the USDA approved the state plan submitted for the Delaware Domestic Hemp Production Program. Delaware is now the second state on the East Coast to receive approval to administer a domestic hemp program.

Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse recognized long-time Delaware State University Department Chair Dr. Richard Barczewski with the Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service to Delaware Agriculture. With thirty-five years of dedicated service, Barczewski was recognized for developing Delaware’s agricultural industry though educating generations of agriculturalists, promoting animal agriculture, and service to agricultural organizations, including 4-H and FFA.
