Nominate Delaware’s Outstanding Volunteers

Do you know an outstanding volunteer or volunteer group? The State Office of Volunteerism is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Awards.




Screening for Life and Community Healthcare Access Programs

In the ongoing fight to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in Delaware, the Department of Health and Social Services, Representative John Carney, Dr. Stephen Grubbs of Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, William Bowser, chair of the Delaware Cancer Consortium, and others gathered today at the Claymont Community Center to celebrate the work of Screening for Life and the Community Healthcare Access Program (CHAP). These Delaware Division of Public Health programs offer free cancer screenings to the uninsured and underinsured, and treatment to the uninsured.




Delaware is Among Top 10 Bicycle-Friendly States in U.S.

The League of American Bicyclists issued a report today that affirmed what many Delawareans already know – that Delaware is one of the best places in the country to ride a bicycle, but officials are not resting on their laurels.




Next State Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking Thursday in Odessa

Open Door, Inc. will host the next in a series of Delaware town hall meetings on underage drinking at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at its location in Odessa. The town hall meetings are coordinated by the state Division of Substance Abuse & Mental Health.




Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Proclaims “May Is Mammography Month”

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and Governor Jack Markell have proclaimed that “May is Mammography Month” in Delaware. Early this morning, Governor Markell held a press conference at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, part of the Christiana Care Health System, and was joined by DBCC’s Executive Director, Vicky Cooke, and Medical Director of the Graham Cancer Center, Dr. Nicholas Petrelli.
