Governor’s Weekly Message: Preparing For Our Future by Strengthening Our Schools

Earlier this week, we shared some exciting news regarding Delaware’s public education system – next school year, nearly 1000 kindergarteners and first graders will be enrolled in our world language immersion program, spending half their school day learning in either Chinese or Spanish. Over the next decade, we expect that number to reach 10,000. It’s one of many ways we’re working to create a world class education system.

Today, Delaware Governor Jack Markell, Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Secretary Rita Landgraf, along with Delaware’s Congressional Delegation of U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons and U.S. Representative John Carney (all D-Del.) announced a $8,536,543 Exchange Establishment Grant award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.
