Helps Launch New Online Developmental Screening Tool for Parents & Healthcare Providers
Visits Eighth Grade Classes at Beacon Middle School

DOVER – On Wednesday, May 9, Lt. Governor Denn will be in Sussex County.

He will join Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay and pediatrician Dr. John J. Ludwicki to announce the launch of Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDs) online, a new developmental screening tool for parents and healthcare providers.  A demonstration will be given and the parent of an infant at Dr. Ludwicki’s practice will share her experience with the screening.

Parents can use the PEDS screening tool in the privacy of their own home to help identify potential developmental issues with their child.  Medical providers can also use the tool to screen their patients and work closely with the parents during well child visits to address behavioral and developmental issues.

Early screening is vital.  According to the CDC, children with autism identified early and enrolled in early intervention programs show significant improvements in their language, cognitive, social, and motor skills, as well as in their future educational placement.

Lt. Governor Denn will then visit Beacon Middle School, where he will be joined by Principal Dave Frederick. He will first visit with teachers.  From 1pm – 2pm, press is invited to join him as he speaks to two eighth grade classes who will learn about the responsibilities of the Lt. Governor and are prepared to ask him questions.
