Wilmington – Attorney General Beau Biden is urging Delawareans who have shopped at Target to register through the company for free credit monitoring being offered in the wake of a massive breach of customer data.
“Target is doing the responsible thing by offering free credit monitoring to all of its customers and I encourage consumers to take advantage of this service immediately,” Biden said.
Last month Target announced that payment card data may have been stolen for as many as 40 million Target customers who made credit or debit card purchases in its U.S. stores from November 27, 2013 to December 15, 2013. Data taken in this breach may have included customer name, credit or debit card number, the card’s expiration date, and the card’s three-digit CVV security code. Earlier this month, Target announced that its ongoing investigation into the data breach revealed that additional customer information, including names, mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for up to 70 million individuals was taken from Target in the breach.
In the wake of the widespread data breach, Target is offering free credit monitoring services through Experian for one year to all customers who shopped at its U.S. stores. Customers can enroll in Experian’s ProtectMyID service at no charge for one year by visiting creditmonitoring.target.com and requesting an activation code. Guests will be required to submit their name and an email address on the site, and will receive an e-mail within 72 hours containing a unique activation code and directions for how to enroll in ProtectMyID. Customers must sign-up to receive an activation code on creditmonitoring.target.com by April 23, 2014, and must redeem their code by April 30, 2014.
