AG’s office to sponsor 3 drop-off locations through coordinated local, state, federal effort to reduce prescription drug abuse
Wilmington – Attorney General Beau Biden today urged Delawareans to help reduce the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse by disposing of their unneeded medications at free prescription drug take-back events this Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is organized nationally by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and in Delaware Biden’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is sponsoring 3 drop-off sites of more than 30 offered statewide under the leadership of Governor Markell and his Cabinet, in partnership with state and local police agencies, and healthcare organizations.
“Prescription drug abuse is a full-blown epidemic in our State,” Biden said. “We’re asking Delawareans to help limit illegal access to these drugs one household at a time by taking a few minutes to look through the family medicine cabinet, gather together their medications that are no longer needed, and drop them off this Saturday for safe and effective disposal.”
At each site, individuals can anonymously discard unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. The Attorney General’s office is sponsoring three drop-off sites at the following locations:
New Castle County:
Shipley Manor
2723 Shipley Road, Wilmington
Kent County:
Heritage at Dover
1203 Walker Road, Dover
Sussex County:
Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center
18947 John Jay Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach

- Prescription and over-the-counter solid dosage medications (i.e. tablets and capsules) are accepted.
- Consumers are encouraged to remove personal information from bottles and packages.
- Intravenous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted.
- Illicit substances such as marijuana and methamphetamine are not part of the program.
