Department of Justice Weekly Highlights Include Prison Time for Several Weapons Offenses

WILMINGTON – Deputy Attorneys General in the Delaware Department of Justice secure a number of important convictions, sentencings and other court rulings each week. The Department of Justice will send out recaps of key cases.  Here are the highlights from the week ending Friday, Jan. 9, 2015.

 

Sentencings:

 

Deputy Attorneys General Steve Wood and Joe Grubb secured a 25 year prison sentence for Davear Whittle, after a guilty plea of manslaughter and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Whittle shot and killed 35 year old Donald Williams of Philadelphia in August 2010, in the 300 block of Townsend, after an apparent drug deal had gone bad.

 

Deputy Attorney General Jamie McCloskey secured an eight year prison sentence against Darrell Robinson, after a guilty plea of Tier 1 drug dealing, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. Robinson was stopped by Wilmington Police, and found with over 100 bags of heroin, which he admitted were for sale. While out on bail, he was stopped again by Wilmington Police who saw him throw a loaded gun under his car as he tried to walk away.

 

Deputy Attorney General Dan McBride secured a six year prison sentence against Shannon Mathison numerous weapons charges and resisting arrest. Mathis is a High Risk Offender.

 

Conviction:

 

Deputy Attorney General Phil Casale won a conviction for felony theft and conspiracy, against Jennifer Herr, 38 of Wilmington. Herr, and a co-defendant, stole another woman’s wallet at Delaware Park. The wallet had $2,500 inside.
