Delaware Division of the Arts is hosting a statewide Arts Summit on October 26, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Dover Downs, 1131 N. DuPont Highway, in Dover. This biennial event is open to all who wish to attend, and is designed specifically for arts organization staff, board, and volunteers; artists; program planners; educators; arts patrons; and state and community leaders.
The theme of this year’s Summit is “Let’s Get Engaged.” Engaging with community, audiences, funders, partners, and colleagues is a key element of success for organization or artistic endeavors. The Division will present a group of nationally-recognized speakers offering ideas and action plans to make the most of these engagements. Some of the topics to be covered include: Local and National Advocacy, Social Media, Community Engagement, Building Audiences, Creative Aging, A Sustainable Life as an Artist, and Partnering for Impact.
The keynote address, Urban Alchemy, Art Transforms, will be presented by artist Lily Yeh. Founder and former executive director of the Village of Arts & Humanities in Philadelphia, Yeh now brings the transformative power of art to impoverished communities around the globe through participatory, multifaceted projects that foster community empowerment, improve the physical environment, promote economic development, and preserve indigenous art and culture.
Featured speakers will also include Delaware Governor Jack A. Markell; Delaware Secretary of State Jeffrey W. Bullock; and Randy Cohen, Vice President of Research and Policy at Americans for the Arts.
