DNREC Division of Parks & Recreation announces Wilmington’s Baynard Stadium to close for repairs July 11 – Aug 12

WILMINGTON – DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation announced today that Baynard Stadium will be closed for public use July 11 through Aug.12. The stadium closure is necessary to remove the south bleachers, which were closed in May due to structural safety concerns. The south side of the stadium will become an active work zone for approximately five weeks, as electrical service in the stadium is relocated and the south bleacher sections are disassembled.

The City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation’s Wednesday evening track meets will continue to be held at the stadium through July 29. All other public use will be prohibited during the closure period.

DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation will install temporary bleachers on the south side of the stadium while plans, designs and funding for permanent bleachers are secured over the next few years. The temporary bleachers will be constructed prior to the start of the next high school football season, and will have a seating capacity of approximately 900 spectators. Baynard Stadium’s north side bleachers, with a seating capacity of 2,000, are not affected by the repair work and will continue to be used when the stadium reopens.
