(Smyrna) – An assessment team was in Sussex County today to conduct Individual Assistance Property Damage Assessments. The team included the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration, Sussex County Offices of Emergency Management and Code Enforcement, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Delaware Divisions of Social Services and Public Health, and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA).
The Property Damage Assessment (PDA) will be used to determine whether the damages suffered as a result of the tornado that hit Sussex County on Monday are beyond the state’s capability to handle without federal assistance. The joint assessment determines the extent of tornado, its impact on individuals and public facilities, and the types of federal assistance that may be requested by the State of Delaware.
DEMA Director A.J. Schall, who has been at the damaged sites said, “The PDA incorporates multiple partners from all levels of government and our non-profit partners to see what we can do for the survivors. I am very impressed to see how the greater Sussex County community has rallied behind these individuals.”
