Attorney General Jennings’ statement on Purdue Pharma plea agreement

Attorney General Kathy Jennings released Friday the following statement regarding a plea agreement reached between Purdue Pharma and federal authorities this week:

The Sackler family and Purdue Pharma still have blood on their hands. This settlement took the easy way out ahead of an election rather than holding the Sacklers fully accountable. I’m especially disappointed and angered at the notion that the government would preserve one of the worst corporate parents of the opioid epidemic, rather than holding it fully and unequivocally accountable for the havoc it wreaked. But I’m not giving up.

The addiction epidemic still plagues every corner of our small state. We cannot bring back the loved ones, friends, and neighbors who have been taken by the opioid crisis—but we can and must continue to seek justice and accountability for the victims of the Sacklers’ avarice, callousness, and fraud.

Our work is not over. Justice must be served, and I’ll continue working with my fellow attorneys general to ensure that the Sacklers pay every dime they owe the people of Delaware and of this nation – no matter which overseas account it’s hidden in.
