Governor Carney’s Statement on U.S. Senator Carper’s Chairmanship of Senate Environment and Public Works Committee

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney on Thursday released the following statement after U.S. Senator Tom Carper was named Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works:

“Senator Carper has long understood the importance of protecting our natural resources – to preserve those resources and to drive economic growth and job creation. In Delaware, our Constitution and oath of office compels our elected officials to preserve the ‘rich historic and natural heritage’ of our state for future generations of Delawareans. Our parks, beaches and waterways also drive our $3.5 billion tourism economy. In the months and years to come, we need to get serious about tackling a climate crisis that is already threatening Delaware, the lowest-lying state in the country. I have full confidence that Chairman Carper will be an effective partner in Congress for the Biden Administration and the State of Delaware.”
