Police seek information on suspect
Prosecutors have secured the indictment of Justin Michael Chaffier in a February 2021 killing. Chaffier, 35, is charged with Murder First Degree and Stalking following a New Castle County police investigation into the murder of Nicole Crawford.
“Nobody should ever have to know the pain that the Crawford family is experiencing,” said Attorney General Jennings. “This is a significant step toward justice – one reached thanks to the diligent work of the New Castle County Police Department – and we implore anyone with additional information on Justin Chaffier to contact detectives.”
On February 26, 2021, New Castle County Police were contacted by Crawford’s mother, who had gone to her daughter’s house after her employer called to report that she had missed work. Crawford was declared dead on-scene shortly after investigators discovered her remains in her bedroom. Police identified Chaffier – who also uses the name Justin Giannettino online – as Crawford’s estranged boyfriend and developed him as a suspect over the course of a multistate investigation.
