LT. GOVERNOR KYLE EVANS GAY REFLECTS ON ACHIEVEMENTS FROM HER FIRST 100 DAYS
DOVER — Delivering on her promise to be ready to serve on day one, Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay’s first 100 days focused on fostering healthier communities, protecting the most vulnerable, and strengthening collaboration between state and community leaders to build a stronger Delaware.
“In my first 100 days, I wanted to make clear my office’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and public service. What we’ve already accomplished reflects that unwavering commitment. My team and I have worked diligently to ensure the Office of the Lt. Governor serves as a true partner by building relationships, offering resources, and implementing initiatives that center the diverse needs of Delawareans. As I have said, we are just getting started. My plan is to build on this momentum, working towards a better Delaware—for this generation and the next,” stated Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay.
Key achievements from Lt. Governor Gay’s first 100 days include:
Reconvened and expanded the Behavioral Health Consortium: As Chair of the Behavioral Health Consortium (BHC), Lt. Governor Gay will have a critical role in further advancing community resources for marginalized communities. She has instituted new working groups, revamping the efforts of the BHC to expand its impact. The working groups will focus on tackling the opioid crisis, addressing maternal mental health, and better supporting caregivers, first responders, and veterans.
Introduced policies to improve transparency in the Board of Pardons process: Fulfilling her constitutional duty, Lt.Governor Gay serves as the President of the Delaware Board of Pardons, which hears petitions during public meetings for pardons or sentence commutations. She carries her experience as an attorney in this role, balancing the importance of providing second chances and protecting victims. Within her first 100 days, she has worked with the Board to continue to create efficiencies while promoting just proceedings and initiated a process to modernize the Board of Pardon rules which have not been updated in over fifteen years.
Reestablished Community Affinity Groups: Committed to having an office that functions as a bridge, Lt. Governor Gay has asked leaders throughout our state to join community affinity groups. Open to the public, the goal of these affinity group calls is to help ensure that state-level decisions and resources are impactful by engaging leaders and advocates who represent communities across the state. Hosted by the Office of the Lt. Governor, the following affinity groups will meet regularly to foster collaboration:
-
Art and Creative Economy Leaders
-
Black Leaders
-
Faith Leaders
-
Latinx Leaders
-
LGBTQ+ Leaders
-
Veterans Affairs
Launched statewide meet-and-greet series: With an understanding that the foundation of partnership starts with listening, Lt. Governor Gay and her team launched a statewide meet-and-greet series. These community conversations will take place over the coming months in all three counties, offering information about the role of the office and creating space for Delawareans to talk about the issues that matter the most. The next meet-and-greet is in Sussex County, on Monday, May 19, at CAMP Rehoboth, starting at 6 p.m.
Elevated community-led initiatives through strategic advocacy: Prioritizing diverse efforts across Delaware, Lt. Governor Gay has actively engaged with communities statewide—meeting with local leaders in Dover, touring small businesses in Seaford, visiting state and nonprofit facilities in Georgetown and Milford, and exploring new initiatives rooted in Wilmington and Newark. These visits have deepened her connection to community-led efforts, reinforcing her commitment to supporting policies and people who advance Delaware as the best state to live in.
Lt. Governor Gay has also outlined her policy priorities which include: strengthening Delaware’s early childhood education system, expanding access to the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare, enhancing support services for first responders, veterans and their families, and continuing to ensure our workforce in all these critical industries are supported.
