DMV on the Go is Beach Bound

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) kicks off its 2nd DMV on the Go season with the addition of a third location.

Starting, Monday, May 22, 2023, the 45’ trailer will call DART’s Lewes Transit Center home every Monday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm through October 31st except for holidays.

The trailer, featuring four fully functional workstations, made its debut last April. It’s ADA-accessible. It comes complete with an awning for bad weather, and a wheelchair lift, and performs all transactions as a traditional DMV except for inspections, and road exams. Customers in need of in-person driver improvement or uninsured motorist assistance would also still need to go to the Wilmington, Delaware City, Dover, or Georgetown DMV location.

In its first year, the DMV on the Go trailer assisted over 1,200 customers by allowing them to renew their registrations, driver licenses, complete title work, and more right in their neighborhood.

DMV on the Go locations May 22 through October 31, 2023 (the trailer will be at the Delaware State Fair July 20, 2023 – July 29, 2023, and not at the below locations):

Mondays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
DART’s Lewes Transit Center
17616 Coastal Highway
Lewes, DE 19958

Tuesdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (starting August 1, 2023)
DART First State
119 Lower Beech Street
Wilmington, DE 19805

Thursdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Big Lots Plaza
820 Norman Eskridge Highway
Seaford, DE 19973

“We received a lot of positive feedback our first year,” shared Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski. “We’re excited the public is embracing DMV on the Go, but equally as excited knowing it’s connecting our customers to the services they need. They are getting in, getting out and not having to drive a long distance to a DMV location.”

“The addition of a second Sussex County location at the DART Lewes Transit Center will really help those living at the beach, especially as summer approaches,” commented the Director of the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles Jana Simpler. “Now every Monday instead of driving to Georgetown, customers in need of DMV can just come see us in Lewes,” continued Simpler.

To access other DMV services, customers can complete over 20 transactions online at mydmv.delaware.gov/ including Delaware driver license, identification, vehicle registration renewals, duplicates, and address changes.

DART‘s Beach Bus also returns for the season on Monday, May 22, 2023. The 305 Beach Connection, operates on weekends and holidays and serves the Wilmington Transit Center, Christiana Mall, Odessa Park & Ride in Middletown, Scarborough Road Park & Ride lot in Dover, Lewes Transit Center, just south of the Five Points, and the Rehoboth Park & Ride lot on Shuttle Road. The one-way cash fares are $6 from the Wilmington Transit Center, Christiana Mall, and Odessa Park & Ride (Middletown), and $4 from Dover. Riders traveling from New Castle County are encouraged to buy a 3-Zone Daily Pass for $10 and from Kent County a 2-Zone Daily Pass for $8, which can also be used on all Beach Bus Services. DMV Unveils New Virtual Lobby

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) invites customers to utilize its newest feature, the DMV virtual
lobby.

The virtual lobby can be accessed via Plan & Scan mobile ticketing. Customers interested in waiting in their vehicles vs
waiting inside a DMV location can simply scan the QR code upon arrival. QR codes can be found on signs throughout the
parking lot, on the front doors, on the sidewalks, and inside the lobby.

Customers will receive a virtual ticket reserving their place in line after scanning a code and completing the below steps.

• Scan the QR Code
• Click on weblink
• Enter your mobile phone number (optional but necessary to receive text updates regarding the customer’s place in line)
• Select location
• Select transaction type
• Wait in your vehicle
• Proceed inside when you receive a text

For the Plan & Scan mobile ticketing feature to function properly, users should make sure to enable the “locations”
setting on their smart device.

“Plan & Scan entered the test phase during COVID-19 when the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles was exploring
options to reduce the number of people waiting in our lobbies while we continued to serve the public,” commented
Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski. “Its success continues to grow giving customers the option of waiting in the
the comfort of their own vehicles vs in a crowded lobby or outside when it’s too hot, too cold, raining, or snowing,”
continued Majeski.

“Aside from being able to wait in their vehicles, patrons using Plan & Scan mobile ticketing can also use the
feature to monitor their position in line,” said Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles Director Jana Simpler.
“It’s just another tool we offer in order to create a better overall experience for our customers,” continued
Simpler.

Anyone interested in waiting in the new virtual lobby can utilize Plan & Scan mobile ticketing from the parking
lot of all four DMV locations: Wilmington, Delaware City, Dover, and Georgetown. The feature is accessible via
any smart device, but before using customers must turn on the “locations” setting.

DMV Announces First-Time Trust Requests by Appointment Only

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will now process all first-time Trust requests by appointment only, to allow for a thorough review of all documents before the scheduled visit.

Customers seeking to place their Delaware-titled vehicle in the name of a Trust may visit dmv.de.gov/onlineservices/trust-appointments to schedule an appointment at their preferred DMV location. To make the process easier please make sure to have all the below information prior to scheduling:

  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Name(s) on trust
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for all vehicles
  • Make, model & year of all vehicles
  • State in which vehicle(s) is currently titled
  • Original trust and/or amendments

“At DMV we’re always looking for ways to reduce wait times. Trust requests take more time to process compared to a typical Delaware title transfer,” said Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski. “By moving to an appointment-based system we can move these more complex transactions out of the general cue and do most of the work behind the scenes. The result is a more streamlined process that benefits our staff and customers,” continued Majeski.

“We want to make things as easy for our customers as possible. With the new Trust process, our team will review all necessary documentation in advance of the customer’s arrival. Any missing documents, any necessary changes that need to be made can be done beforehand reducing the time you’ll need to spend at DMV and eliminating the need for multiple visits,” said Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles Director Jana Simpler.

The necessary documentation for first-time trust requests will vary depending on the language written in the trust and the state where the vehicle is currently titled. For the most common scenarios and documents required or to schedule an appointment visit dmv.de.gov/onlineservices/trust-appointments or call 302-744-2500.

Your lottery code can be found in the upper left-hand corner of your confirmation e-mail.

All winners will receive a standard blue and gold license plate upon completing their title work. If their tag number qualifies and they wish to purchase a black and white tag once they have completed their title work with DMV, they can do so through the Delaware Historic Plate Co. To order a qualifying black & white porcelain or stainless-steel tag, go to dhptags.com.

DISCLAIMER: The name and driver license and or identification card number used to enter the lottery must match the name and driver license/identification card that will be presented to the DMV associate at the time of the transaction. If there is a discrepancy the request will be denied. The winner must apply the new tag to their vehicle no later than February 28, 2023. There will be no extensions. Tags must be applied to a vehicle; DMV will not permit placing the tag on hold. The owner is responsible for all applicable fees. Specialty tags, background tags, stainless steel tags, and porcelain tags have additional fees. DMV reserves the right to modify the tag number as assigned due to unforeseen circumstances.
