There will be School Board Elections in the Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Christina and Red Clay Consolidated School Districts on Tuesday, May 14th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

School Board Elections are also being held in Kent and Sussex Counties.

The Appoquinimink School District Referendum held today, May 9, 2013, passes.

The turnout in today’s referendum was 320 people less than in the referendum held on February 28, 2013.

The Board of Elections is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Carvel State Office Building, 820 N. French St, Suite 400, Wilmington, to certify the results.

Appoquinimink Board of Education candidate withdraws

Wilmington DE – Michael Guinan has withdrawn as a candidate for the Appoquinimink School District Board of Education. Four candidates remain on the ballot. The election will be held on May 14, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Candidate for the Colonial Board of Education has withdrawn

Wilmington DE – LaVee T. McCrea one of the two candidates for the Colonial School District Board of Education Nominating District “C” has withdrawn. In the absence of an opponent, Richard W. Schiller, Jr. has been declared elected.

There will not be a School Board Election in the Colonial School District on May 14, 2013, because there is only one candidate for both Nominating Districts up for election.

Absentee ballots are available for School Board and referenda elections

Wilmington DE – Eligible citizens who live in the 5 northern school districts in New Castle County can request absentee ballots for School Board elections in each of the school districts. People can also request ballots for referenda in the Appoquinimink and Colonial School Districts. Affidavits to request ballots for these elections are available at Affidavits must be received by the Department at least 4 days before the day of the election in order for the Department to mail a ballot to an applicant. Voted absentee ballots must be returned to the Department’s office no later than 8 p.m. on the day of the election.

People can also vote at the Department’s office in the Carvel State Office Building, 820 N French St, Suite 400 in Wilmington between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. during normal business hours and until 12 Noon the day before the elections. People who vote in the Department’s office must show proof of identity and address.
