Governor Carney Orders Lowering of Flags

WILMINGTON, DE – In accordance with President Biden’s order and as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on October 25, 2023, in Lewiston, Maine, Governor John Carney has ordered both the U.S. and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff effective immediately. Flags are to remain at half-staff until sunset, October 30, 2023.


Governor Carney Orders Lowering of Flags

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney has ordered Delaware flags to be lowered to half-staff at all state facilities on Thursday, October 19, 2023, until end of day Friday, October 20, 2023, to honor Delaware Capitol Police Sergeant Darold W. Weber Jr. Sergeant Weber died October 5, 2023, after suffering a medical emergency while on duty at the New Castle County Courthouse. Sergeant Weber had served with the Capitol Police for 17 years. Including his previous tenure with the Dover Police Department, Clayton Police Department and Smyrna Police Department, Sergeant Weber had more than 45 years combined service to the citizens of Delaware.

 

Local governments, businesses, and Delawareans are encouraged to lower flags as a mark of respect for Sergeant Weber.

 


Governor Carney Orders Lowering of Flags

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney has ordered Delaware flags to be lowered to half-staff at all state facilities on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 until sunset on Friday, October 13, 2023 to honor those who have lost their lives due to recent violence in Israel.

Local governments, businesses, and Delawareans are encouraged to do the same as a mark of respect for the victims of the terrorist attacks.

“Delawareans stand with our friends in Israel and we strongly condemn these violent terrorist attacks that are targeting innocent people,” said Governor Carney. “We stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Terrorism is never justified and Tracey and I pray for all the lives lost, the people of Israel, and their families and friends in Delaware and around the world.”


Flag Status Update

Please note the flag status update regarding flag lowering for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. A service in honor of Sen. Feinstein’s memory is scheduled for Thursday, October 5, followed by her interment. Accordingly, all flags should be returned to full staff at sunset today, Thursday, October 5.

Flags are to be returned to full staff at sunset on the day of Senator Feinstein’s interment.
