The Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens (GACEC) regrets that we are unable to hold the annual poster contest as part of October’s Disability History and Awareness Month this year.  This popular annual event challenges art students from schools across the State of Delaware with a theme to create disabilty awareness. We look forward to being able to hold the poster contest next year once the pandemic has slowed and we’re all more familiar with being back in the classroom full time.

In the meantime, we hope you will access the Disability History and Awareness Month resource guide on the GACEC website at https://gacec.delaware.gov/disability-history-awareness/. There are still many things we can do to observe disability history in Delaware. This resource guide will provide ideas for you, your classroom, your students and their families. Also, there will be additional disability history and awareness items on the GACEC website and Delaware Disability Hub (https://deldhub.gacec.delaware.gov/) website throughout the month of October.

The Department of Health and Social Services established a number of  COVID-19 test sites throughout the state. If you have the following symptoms you may want to get checked for COVID-19: symptoms ranging from mild to severe, including fever/chills, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, headache, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. Coronavirus School Testing
Delaware Division of Public Health in partnership with Quidel will provide asymptomatic COVID-19 screening services to participating school districts. Students and faculty that opt-in to the COVID-19 screening program will be testing with Quidel’s rapid antigen tests to facilitate the re-opening of K-12 public schools in the fall of 2021.
