Three Delaware Police Agencies Earn State Accreditation

The Dagsboro, Ellendale, and Selbyville Police Departments have each earned state accreditation from the Delaware Police Accreditation Commission (DPAC). As part of the rigorous process, a team of DPAC assessors ensured all accreditation standards were met by completing a comprehensive on-site inspection, reviewing agency policies and procedures, and conducting interviews with department members.

“State accreditation requires a commitment to excellence and determination. Each agency embraced the challenge and completed the process to meet more than 100 professional standards. I commend them for a job well done,” said Joshua Bushweller, Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) Secretary and DPAC Chair.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) is encouraging Delawareans to celebrate the new year safely by offering its annual New Year’s Eve Sober Rides program. The initiative provides $20 ride-share vouchers for Uber or Lyft to help prevent impaired driving during one of the most dangerous nights of the year.

Capitol Police Expanding Facility Dog Program Statewide

The Delaware Capitol Police is expanding its Facility Dog Program to all Delaware courthouses by now offering services in Kent and Sussex counties. The program pairs specially trained dogs with dedicated handlers to comfort vulnerable populations and reduce anxiety. Vinn, Delaware’s first facility dog, arrived in October 2022 through Canine Companions, a non-profit organization. Vinn knows over 40 commands, including calming pressure therapy, and has passed the Assistance Dogs International (ADI) test.
