Part of Castle Trail on C&D Canal Conservation Area temporarily closed for repairs and to reroute damaged portion

ST. GEORGES – DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today that, effective immediately, an approximately 150-yard portion of the Michael Castle Trail on the C&D Canal Conservation Area has been closed in order to repair and reroute a portion of the trail that is failing and experiencing structural damage. The closed section begins about 200 yards east of the Biddle Point trailhead.

The Delaware Department of Transportation has received required federal approval to reroute the failing portion of the trail to a more stable location, with work scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 21. The repairs and rerouting are expected to take up to two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The Michael Castle Trail is located on the north side of the C&D Canal, and is open to pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian uses only.

Part of Castle Trail on C&D Canal Conservation Area closed for emergency repairs

ST. GEORGES – DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today that a portion of the Mike Castle Trail east of the Biddles Point trailhead on the C&D Canal Conservation Area has been closed effective immediately due to a large sinkhole opening along the trail as a result of the recent heavy rains.

Repairs to replace a faulty drain and repair the blacktop on the trail will begin Friday, July 27, and are expected to be complete, with the trail reopened, weather permitting, on Monday, August 6.

Part of Castle Trail on C&D Canal Conservation Area to close for repairs June 15

ST. GEORGES – DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today that a portion of the Mike Castle Trail west of the Lums Pond trailhead on the C&D Canal Conservation Area will be temporarily closed for repairs beginning Friday, June 15.

Repairs are necessary due to a crushed culvert and damaged pavement on the trail. Weather permitting, construction is expected to be complete, with the trail reopened, early next week.

DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police arrest Pennsylvania pair for multiple fishing violations

DELAWARE CITY – DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police arrested a Philadelphia man and woman May 9 for numerous fishing violations near Delaware City.

Miek Pek, 73, and Saroeun Pek, 74, both of Philadelphia, were each charged with 72 counts of possession of undersized white perch, 24 counts each of possession of undersized striped bass and possession of unlawfully taken striped bass, 22 counts of altering the length of striped bass, and one count each of possession of over-the-limit striped bass and conspiracy 3rd degree.

Both defendants were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 in New Castle, where they were released on $7,500 unsecured bond each, pending a future court date. In addition to the unsecured bond, both defendants were ordered to have no contact with the C&D Canal waterway or C&D Canal Conservation Area ad had their fishing licenses suspended until the case is resolved.
