Sea Level Rise Awareness Week Sept. 14 – 22 encourages citizens to take actions to reduce impacts of sea level rise and climate change

At the DuPont Environmental Education Center on the Wilmington Riverfront, Governor Jack Markell, DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, EPA Region 3 Administrator Shawn M. Garvin, Delaware Nature Society Exec. Dir. Brian Winslow and Delaware Wild Lands Exec. Dir. Kate Hackett joined with environmental organizations to announce the kick-off of Delaware’s first Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, Sept. 14 – 22. The week of activities, being sponsored by 14 Delaware environmental advocacy groups, was organized to raise awareness and encourage citizens to take actions to help reduce the potential impacts of sea level rise and climate change.




ReCommunity’s Materials Recovery Facility celebrates grand opening; Delaware State-of-the-Art Recycling Center caps $15 million

With today’s grand opening of ReCommunity’s 35th Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), the largest pure-play recycling company in the United States launches into a 20-year agreement with the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) to operate a state-of-the-art automated recycling facility that will serve Delaware statewide.




Fort Delaware Museum Theatre to present “Swallowing the Yellow Dog”

Fort Delaware State Park will offer a special museum theatre program debuting on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 2:45 p.m., and on every weekend after that through Labor Day.

“Swallowing the Yellow Dog” presents the story of two Confederate prisoners mulling over one’s decision to sign the oath of allegiance to the United States. The presentation, written by Dale Jones of Making History Connections, was created using primary research information on prisoner life at the fort.




Nature Nook Opens at Dover Public Library

The Nature Nook opens today at the Dover Public Library. The nook is a space for kids to learn and get excited about nature and the outdoors. DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation, the Children in Nature Task Force, and the Dover Public Library are collaborating on the project.




Repowered NRG Energy Center Dover Unveiled; Gov. Markell, Congressional Delegation, DNREC Sec. O’Mara, other officials join with NRG to announce cleaner natural gas facility

Governor Jack Markell, along with U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, U.S. Congressman John Carney, DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara and other officials joined with NRG East Region President Lee Davis to celebrate the newly repowered NRG Energy Center Dover, one of the cleanest power plants in the nation.
