Dover, DE – On Saturday, October 27th, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., law enforcement agencies across the state of Delaware are partnering with the Delaware Office of Highway Safety as part of the “CheckPoint StrikeForce,” operation. Officers will be manning three sobriety checkpoints, one in each county, as follows:

Each year, thousands of trick-or-treaters flock to the streets on Halloween night. Thousands of others head to local bars and restaurants to also partake in the merry-making. Halloween festivities have expanded to include celebrations during the weekend leading up to Halloween. Don’t put yourself or another at risk by choosing to drink and drive.

Over the last three years in Delaware, between October 27th and November 1st, there were 232 DUI arrests.  There were thirty-five impaired driving-related serious or fatal crashes that resulted in three fatalities and forty-five people being seriously injured. If you know you’re going to go out and party for Halloween, make sure you plan accordingly and have a sober ride to get you home,” said Kimberly Chesser, Acting Director Delaware Office of Highway Safety.” Don’t let your celebration end tragically by drinking and/or consuming drugs and getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Additionally, OHS will be sharing drive sober messages this month through a variety of paid, digital and social media engagements, including the following:

  • Desktop and mobile digital ads
  • Social media posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Billboards
  • Collateral materials in bars and restaurants
  • Prints ads in Spanish
  • Radio Ads
