Governor Carney Orders Lowering of Flags

WILMINGTON, Del. – In accordance with the President’s order, Governor John Carney has ordered Delaware flags to be lowered to half-staff at state facilities on the day of interment to honor the late Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female appointed to the nation’s highest court. A dedicated public servant and advocate for civics education, O’Connor received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.

WILMINGTON, DE – In accordance with President Biden’s order and as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on October 25, 2023, in Lewiston, Maine, Governor John Carney has ordered both the U.S. and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff effective immediately. Flags are to remain at half-staff until sunset, October 30, 2023.

WILMINGTON, Del. – President Biden ordered flags at all U.S. government buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff until sunset on March 31, 2023 as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on March 27, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.

In concurrence with the President’s order, Governor Carney has ordered both the U.S. and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff until sunset on March 31, 2023, and issued the following statement:

“Today we saw yet another senseless act of gun violence in a place where children should feel safe: their school. As President Biden said this afternoon, this is a family’s worst nightmare. We have an obligation to do everything we can to prevent tragedies like what we saw today. Tracey and I are praying for the families of the victims, their many friends, and the communities that have been upended by this violence.”

Flag Lowering for the Victims of the Tragedy in Monterey Park, California

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on January 21, 2023, in Monterey Park, California, President Biden has ordered flags at all U.S. government buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff until sunset on January 26, 2023.

In concurrence with the President’s order, Governor Carney has ordered both the U.S. and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities be flown at half-staff until sunset on January 26, 2023.

As a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II, and in concurrence with President Joe Biden’s order, Governor Carney has ordered all U.S. and Delaware flags to be flown at half-staff at State buildings and facilities until sunset on Monday, September 19, 2022, the date of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Flags should be returned to full staff at the start of businesses on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.
