Delawareans can now easily find arts and culture events happening today, soon, and nearby with the new “What’s On” smartphone app.

“What’s On” shows an interactive map of Delaware with pins for arts events. Tapping a pin on the map shows an event’s details, contact information, driving directions, and links to the event’s website. Users can also scroll through lists of upcoming events.

The “What’s On” app was developed by Delaware’s Division of the Arts in association with the Delaware Government Information Center (GIC), a state agency charged with helping to connect citizens to government via the internet. Behind the scenes, the app is powered by data from DelawareScene.com, which has been providing arts event information to the public since 2008.

“We are thrilled with this app as it makes the arts even more accessible in Delaware,” said Paul Weagraff, Director of the Division of the Arts. “‘What’s On’ lets you see what’s happening in the arts from your smartphone. People can easily make plans to attend a performance, museum, film, concert or other arts event on the spur of the moment.”

“Many people are last-minute planners,” said Mike Mahaffie, Acting Director of the Delaware Government Information Center. “People launch apps on their phones to see which movies are playing, find places to eat, and figure out what they’re going to do. As part of the State’s eGovernment initiatives, we’re happy ‘What’s On’ makes local arts events a new option for these people.”

The iOS and Android Mobile App Honored as a Finalist at the 2013 NASCIO Awards

Dover – The National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) has selected Delaware’s State Police (DSP) Mobile Crime Tip Line Application as a finalist in the Fast Track Solutions category at the 25th annual NASCIO Recognition Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology in State Government.

“The Delaware State Police continues to utilize technology as a force multiplier to combat and solve crime,” said Sergeant Paul G. Shavack, director of public information for the Delaware State Police. “By the use of smart phone technology, we want to make it as easy and convenient as possible to provide anonymous tips on crimes and criminal activity. When the public becomes involved and provides crime tips, it helps keep their communities safe.”

The DSP free Crime Tip Line application was launched in March of 2013 and already has over 830 downloads on both iPhones and Android phones. The application provides a mobile solution for accepting crime tips, allowing users to report information such as location, activity description, subject description, vehicle description, and even photographs to the police. Tips can be submitted anonymously. All crime tips are passed directly to the DSP via email. The mobile app complements other reporting crime-reporting channels and meets the citizen expectation of “mobile access anytime, anywhere.” This is particularly relevant in the context of public safety. The application is available for download on either iOS or Android at apps.delaware.gov.

NASCIO represents state chief information officers and seeks to recognize technology achievements in state government in order to highlight, promote, and share innovation as well as to engage citizens. The DSP Crime Tip application was developed by Delaware Interactive, LLC in partnership with the Government Information Center (GIC).

DOVER – Delawareans can now review the license status of doctors, accountants, realtors, plumbers, cosmetologists, and many other professionals directly from their smartphones, adding a new level of convenience to their search for professional services. The new search tool is a free mobile application that allows users to search Division of Professional Regulation records by name, license number, license type, or location. They can learn whether a given professional has a current license in Delaware and whether or not any disciplinary actions have been taken against that professional.

The new mobile Professional License Search tool was created for the Division of Professional Regulation in partnership with the Delaware Government Information Center (GIC) as part of Delaware’s eGovernment initiative, which seeks to make it easier for Delawareans to interact with their government.

“We are pleased to offer mobile access to the Professional License Search,” said Deputy Secretary of State James Collins, who oversees the Division of Professional Regulation. “We are always looking for tools to help customers make informed choices about the professionals providing them services. This is in keeping with Governor Markell’s priorities to make government more efficient, effective, and as in this case, transparent.”

The Professional License Search application is a joint creation of Delaware State Government and Delaware Interactive (DI). The State engaged DI last year to increase the number of online services available to citizens and businesses through the state’s official portal, delaware.gov.

The application is available on any mobile or desktop platform. It can be accessed at egov.delaware.gov/pls or at the State of Delaware mobile applications site, apps.delaware.gov.
