High School Culinary Teams Move on to National Competition

Recently the Delaware Restaurant Association and Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (DRAEF) hosted more than 400 attendees at the Delaware ProStart Student Invitational in Dover. This event provided students with the opportunity to participate in the state’s premier high school competition for restaurant management and culinary arts.

 

Caesar Rodney School District’s Caesar Rodney High School vied with 14 other schools to win the state culinary title, while Cape Henlopen School District’s Cape Henlopen High School competed with nine other schools to take the state management competition.

 

Both schools will be competing at the national competition in Washington, D.C., as well as being featured at the annual DRAEF fundraising dinner. More information can be found on the Pro Start website.

Delaware TSA students bring home awards from national conference

Top state medalists represented Delaware at the National Technology Student Association’s (TSA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) conference held at the National Harbor, Maryland Friday through Tuesday.  Students competed in high technology and in leadership contests such as computer-aided design; dragster design; engineering, inventions & innovations; leadership strategies; manufacturing prototype; medical technology; on-demand video; promotional graphics; structural engineering; system control technology; video game design; robotics, website design and more. The conference was the largest in the organizations history, with more than 8,500 individuals in attendance from through the country and world. It was also the largest national attendance in Delaware TSA history with 147 participants.

 

Highlights include:

  • Apuroop Mutyala of MOT Charter School elected to serve as Vice-President of National TSA
  • Delaware students earned 14 top 10 national honors
  • Kathy Sheehy of Dickinson High School (Red Clay Consolidated School District) awarded Chapter Advisor of the Year
  • Stephen Lee of PS duPont Middle School (Brandywine School District) awarded Chapter Advisor of the Year
  • Postlethwait Middle School (Caesar Rodney School District) honored with Legacy Chapter of Excellence award

Delaware HOSA students place at national conference

More than 100 students and advisers from across the State of Delaware joined nearly 10,000 other members the 41st annual HOSA-Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas. Delaware students represented the First State in competitive events, including: medical math, epidemiology, physical therapy, forensic medicine, dental science, medical assisting, biomedical laboratory science, and more.

Delaware HOSA is a career and technical student organization dedicated to students who are interested in pursuing their future in a career in healthcare. Through HOSA-Future Health Professionals, members have the opportunity to participate in career-focused competitive events, take part in community service work, and become leaders for the organization in their school, state, and at the international level.  HOSA-Future Health Professionals incorporates curricular and co-curricular experiences to emphasize the importance of knowledge, leadership, skill development, and teamwork.

Future Delaware STEM professionals honored at student conference

Top state medalists from throughout Delaware represented Delaware at the National Technology Student Association (TSA) conference held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 22-26, 2018.  Students competed with national finalists in events such as computer-aided design; dragster design; engineering, inventions & innovations; leadership strategies; manufacturing prototype; medical technology; on-demand video; promotional graphics; structural engineering; system control technology; video game design; VEX robotics, website design and more. The conference was the largest in TSA history with more than 8,000 individuals in attendance from across the country. It was also the largest national attendance in Delaware TSA history with 127 members participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM); leadership; and service focused events.

 

Highlights include:

  • Delaware students earned eleven (11) top ten national honors
  • William Greider of Cab Calloway School Of The Arts and Jeff Epting of Gauger-Cobbs Middle School were honored as chapter Advisors of the Year
  • Caesar Rodney High School, H.B. duPont Middle School and MOT Charter School were recognized for Chapter Excellence
  • Apuroop Mutyala and Tyler Rouwhorst from MOT Charter School,  Connor Wagaman of Concord High School, Rishi Gundakaram of Caesar Rodney High School, and Skyler Brand of Lake Forest High School were inducted into the TSA Technology Honor Society.
  • Apuroop Mutyala of MOT Charter School, Adhi Babu, Mithra Sankar, Mythili Satheesh, and Reece Hamlet from H.B. duPont Middle School earned the Gold TSA Professionalism Award
