Junction & Breakwater Trail has “bonus” reopening Friday, July 15, before restoration work resumes next week

Restoration work on portions of the Junction & Breakwater Trail has moved ahead faster than expected, making it possible to reopen repaired segments of the trail Friday, July 15 (with the entire trail remaining open through the weekend), before the work resumes Monday, July 18, closing other parts of the J&B trail through Friday, July 22.

Natural Resources Police officers made 2,677 contacts with anglers, boaters and the general public between May 30-June 5, including 112 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks.




DNREC, DHSS issue new fish consumption advisories reflecting significant improvements in New Castle County

Updated consumption advisories for fish caught in Delaware waterways show some of the most significant improvements in fish tissue contaminant concentrations since the state began assessing contaminants in fish in 1986, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the Department of Health and Social Services’ Division of Public Health (DHSS/DPH) announced today.




New Castle angler catches – then releases – new state-record largemouth bass weighing more than 11 pounds

DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police have certified that an 11-pound, 1.6-ounce largemouth bass caught, and released, by Andrew “A.J.” Klein is a new state-record.




The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park to close for 2016 beachnesting season

The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park, including a stretch of ocean beach and dunes, and a half mile along the bay shoreline, will close beginning Tuesday, March 1, for the benefit of threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds, including red knot, piping plovers, oystercatchers, least terns and other species.
