Lt. Scott Simpson Capital Police, State Auditor Kathy McGuiness, Building Owner and Developer Frank DiMondi, Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, Department of Insurance Chief of Staff Stuart Snyder, Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro, Deputy Commissioner Tanisha Merced, Esquire, Market Conduct / Consumer Services Divisions Director Frank Pyle

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Trinidad Navarro cut the ribbon during a ceremony held this morning at 11 AM to commemorate the opening of the Delaware Department of Insurance’s new Dover office location at 1351 West North Street, Suite 101 in Dover. The Department moved from its original location in the Silver Lake Office Complex in Dover to its new location on July 15, 2019. The event was also attended by Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, State Auditor Kathy McGuiness, as well as Dover City Councilmen Fred Neil and Bill Hare.

The Department began its relocation efforts in 2018 to improve Delaware consumers’ ability to visit the office so their needs could be better met. This included expanded parking, and improved handicap access, in addition to a significant rent savings of over $150,000 during the first year.

Commissioner Navarro mentioned the rent savings over the 15 year lease term with DGKP North (the building’s owner) that would exceed $2 million from what the rent was in the previous location.  Additional savings were cited by the Commissioner that included relocating existing furniture, computers, video equipment, and reducing document storage by more than 100 square feet.  Several construction modifications were made to the interior of the previous office that became cramped over the past 2 decades, and the Department of Insurance was out of space.  The new building is a more efficient design employing the latest technology for energy efficiency. The footprint of the new building is a 13% increase in space, but a 30% reduction in rent per square foot.

Commissioner Navarro stated, “I’m pleased that we were able to move to a new building with these enhancements, and save taxpayers money at the same time.  We now have a conference room that can accommodate our entire staff. A move of this magnitude is never easy.  I have to commend our internal staff who worked on this project, as it was completed on time, and on budget.”

DOVER – Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn M. Garvin was joined today by Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, State Representative William J. Carson Jr., Town of Little Creek Mayor Glenn Gauvry, members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company and community, and DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife staff to cut the ribbon officially opening the newly-completed Little Creek Boating and Fishing Access Area east of Dover.

The new access area consists of a paved, single-lane boat ramp with a floating aluminum courtesy dock for boats that includes a kayak launch, an 80-foot aluminum fishing and crabbing pier, and a paved parking lot with up to 21 parking spaces for vehicles and boat trailers. A Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police patrol boat and the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company emergency response boat will also be docked at a separate dock at the facility.

Funding for the $1.9 million project comes from a federal Sport Fish Restoration grant administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program, revenues from state boat registration fees, Delaware Bayshore Initiative funds, and $200,000 in state Bond Bill funds, the latter of which Rep. Carson helped secure.

The new boating and fishing access area is managed by DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife and supports the Delaware Bayshore Initiative by enhancing outdoor recreation access and supporting local communities.

May 11 Rededication of Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill’s Candee Building to Be Celebrated with Ceremony and Public Tours

SMYRNA – The Department of Health and Social Services will celebrate the completion of the first phase of an initiative to create a more home-like environment for residents living in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill’s Candee Building with a ceremony, ribbon-cutting and public tours from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, May 11.

The ceremony, featuring remarks from DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf, Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities Director Jill Rogers, DHCI Administrator Kim Blunt and others, will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the front of the Candee Building on the DHCI Campus, 100 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna. The official ribbon-cutting will follow remarks.

“This rededication is important to the residents of the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, to the employees of our facility, and to the community of Smyrna,” DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf said. “With the quality care that our residents receive, many individuals are able to return to the community. For those residents whose medical conditions are too fragile, this project will make the Candee Building feel more like a home than a long-term care facility.”

The improvements to the facility include warm paint colors on residents’ units, artwork on the walls, and sconces filled with flowers and greenery. Included in the home-like project were shadow boxes – uniquely created for each resident – containing photographs and embellishments to show their individual personalities and offer insight into their lives.

“It is wonderful to see the pride each resident feels to have their living space feel more comfortable, home-like and beautiful,” Hospital Administrator Kim Blunt said. “I thank all of our staff and volunteers who have worked so hard on behalf of our residents.”

After the ceremony, the public will be able to visit displays highlighting the project, learn about DHCI programs and volunteers, tour the long-term care facility, and enjoy light refreshments.

The Candee Building, in which all 142 residents currently live, was built in 1957 and was named in honor of Dr. Charles L. Candee, one of four members of the former “Old Age Welfare Commission,” which oversaw the hospital’s operations at one tie.

Today, admission to the long-term care facility, which is operated by DHSS, requires both a financial and a medical need.

Lt. Governor in Newark for Events on Wednesday

Visits Las Américas ASPIRA Academy & Participates in Ribbon Cutting for Integrity Staffing Solutions at New National Headquarters

DOVER, Del. – Tomorrow, Lt. Governor Matt Denn will be in Newark for two events.

His first visit will be to Las Américas ASPIRA Academy to see the examples of work from the QUEST program. ASPIRA was a recipient of the Accelerated Academic Grant program, the new state program that made funds available for programs targeted at academically advanced students. The program, created through legislation proposed last year by Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn and the chairs of the General Assembly’s education committees, allows school districts to design programs targeted at students who are ahead of grade level in reading, writing, math, or science.

Local school districts and schools applied for start-up grants for programs targeted at students who are at least a half year ahead of grade level based upon current state standards. ASPIRA received $17,576 and has begun to implement the QUEST (Quality Utilization and Enrichment of Student Talents) Program, focused on developing students’ critical, creative and logical thinking skills and well as problem-solving abilities. The Lt. Governor will learn more about each of those programs and talk with kids participating in the QUEST program.

The Lt. Governor will then participate in the ribbon cutting for Integrity Staffing Solutions, recently relocated to a larger and more expansive office campus located at the Iron Hill Corporate Center in nearby Newark, Delaware.

As one of the nation’s fastest growing, privately-held companies, Integrity’s new 17,230 square-foot work space will support its Delaware-based corporate employees and will include conference, training and collaborative work spaces designed to support Integrity’s growing client roster. In 2013 alone, Integrity provided over 90,000 seasonal and permanent job opportunities for its associates at various client locations across the U.S.

About Integrity Staffing Solutions: Since its launch in 1997, Integrity Staffing Solutions has been committed to generating opportunities for its associates to exceed their own expectations by supplying the skills that advance future fulfillment. The company specializes in temporary and direct-hire employment and customized staffing models that facilitate the growth of careers, communities and companies.
