State Honors Top High School Seniors as 2024 Secretary of Education Scholars

Secretary of Education Mark Holodick has recognized 93 public school students from the Class of 2024 as Secretary of Education Scholars.

Governor John Carney and other state leaders joined Holodick last night to celebrate the students during a dinner in Dover.

“This represents one of the highest academic achievements a student can earn in a Delaware public school,” Holodick told the students, who were joined by their families and school and district leaders. “Every scholar here has achieved incredible success in and out of the classroom – ranging from extraordinary accomplishments on school athletic teams to community service and school leadership positions. These students balance all of these demands of their time and still are able to study and excel academically.”

Holodick Names Top High School Seniors 2022 Secretary Scholars

Secretary of Education Mark Holodick has honored 89 public school students from the Class of 2022 as Secretary of Education Scholars.

The scholars are being recognized on a website (2022 Delaware Secretary of Education Scholars – Delaware Department of Education)  to showcase their outstanding achievements.

“I am so impressed by the accomplishments of these seniors,” Holodick said. “During their high school careers they have persevered through school building closures, remote learning, hybrid learning and the transition back to fulltime face-to-face instruction. They have succeeded due to their hard work and the support of their families and educators. Not only have they earned high academic accolades, they are leaders in their schools, athletic teams and communities. Many have balanced impressive class schedules and extracurricular calendars with part-time jobs and volunteer service. These are just the type of leaders our state needs.”

Secretary Bunting honors high school seniors for outstanding academic achievement

Secretary of Education Susan Bunting congratulates 91 public school students from the Class of 2020 for being named Secretary of Education Scholars.

While the annual banquet to honor the scholars was cancelled, the Delaware Department of Education has developed a website (https://www.doe.k12.de.us/scholars_2020) to recognize the students and share their outstanding achievements.

“I regret that the COVID-19 crisis prevented us from honoring these soon-to-be graduates in person as scheduled. They deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements and leadership in and out of the classroom,” Bunting said. “Their success is the result of their hard work and the support of their families and educators. Graduation is the start of a new chapter in their lives, and I can’t wait to see how they will continue to excel in college, military service and their chosen careers.”

The state has named Secretary of Education Scholars every year since 1984.

“I am inspired by these Delaware students who have excelled academically while also leading community and school organizations, playing sports, and working part-time jobs,” said Governor John Carney. “These are future leaders of our state. Congratulations on your success. Good luck as you move forward. Even if your journey takes you out of Delaware, I hope you’ll return to the First State to continue serving our community.”
