Governor Carney’s Statement on Senate Confirmations

DOVER, Del. Governor John Carney on Wednesday issued the following statement on the Delaware Senate’s confirmation of Eliza Hirst to serve as Family Court Judge in New Castle County, Jessica Markowski-Kelly to serve as Family Court Commissioner in New Castle County and Richard Monkman to serve a term as commissioner for the Thoroughbred Racing Commission.

 

“With their knowledge and experience, Eliza and Jessica will be assets to the children and families served by our Family Court System,” said Governor Carney. “The state also will benefit with Rick’s perspective on the Thoroughbred Racing Commission. The First State cannot operate effectively without having individuals willing to serve the public, and I appreciate these three stepping up for their neighbors. I want to thank the members of the Delaware Senate for their votes to confirm all of our nominees.”

DOVER, Del. – Governor John Carney on Friday issued the following statement on the State Senate’s votes to confirm the Governor’s nominations of Kathleen Miller to serve as a Judge of the Superior Court, The Honorable William L. Chapman, Jr. and Michael Houghton to serve on the Marijuana Appeals Commission, Dr. Melissa Harrington to serve on the State Public Integrity Commission, The Honorable Gregory A. Lane to serve on the Enhanced 911 Emergency Reporting System Service Board, Dr. Wilma Mishoe to serve on the Industrial Accident Board, and the reappointment of The Honorable James J. Maxwell to continue to serve as Commissioner of Family Court:

Governor Carney Issues Statement on Senate Confirmations

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney on Wednesday issued the following statement on the Delaware Senate’s confirmation of Deputy Attorney General Danielle Joffee Brennan as Superior Court Judge in New Castle County; Monroe Hudson as Commissioner of the Delaware Department of Correction (DOC); Eugene Young, Jr. as Director of the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA); and Jacqueline Mette as Alcohol Beverage Control Commissioner:

“Thank you to the Delaware Senate for confirming several dedicated and committed individuals to serve in positions across our state government,” said Governor Carney. “Each appointee has a unique set of skills and experience that they will bring to their new positions, and I am confident they will serve Delaware well.”

The Senate confirmed the following nominations on Wednesday:

Deputy Attorney General Danielle Joffee Brennan was confirmed as Superior Court Judge in New Castle County. Since 2004, Brennan has served in the Delaware Department of Justice as a Deputy Attorney General. She held leadership roles in the Misdemeanor Trial Unit, Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Unit, and New Castle County Felony Trial Unit. Brennan has served as the Statewide Asset Forfeiture Deputy since 2018.

Deputy Corrections Commissioner Monroe B. Hudson Jr. was confirmed as Commissioner of DOC. Hudson has served as Deputy Commissioner since 2019. Previously, he served for 31 years in the Delaware State Police, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and serving as deputy superintendent of Delaware’s largest police agency.  

Eugene Young, Jr. was confirmed as Director of the Delaware State Housing Authority. Young has served as President and CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League (MWUL) since 2017. He also founded the grassroots organizing nonprofit Network Delaware, served as an aide in the Delaware General Assembly, and also as an aide to former Mayor and current U.S. Senator Cory Booker.

Jacqueline Mette was confirmed as the next Alcohol Beverage Control Commissioner. Mette has served as deputy legal counsel for Governor Carney since 2018. Previously, she served as chief policy adviser for the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families (DSCYF).

Nicholas Brock and Michelle Michini were confirmed as Justices of the Peace for New Castle County.

Charles “Bud” Freel was confirmed to the Industrial Accident Board.

Governor Carney Issues Statement on Senate Confirmations of Judicial Nominations

WILMINGTON, Del. – Governor John Carney on Wednesday issued the following statement on the Delaware Senate’s confirmation of judicial nominations to the Court of Chancery, the Superior Court, and the Court of Common Pleas:

“Thank you to the Delaware Senate for confirming several distinguished Delawareans to serve on our world-class judiciary,” said Governor Carney. “All of these nominees have the experience, knowledge, and judgment to serve Delaware well in these positions.”

The Senate confirmed the following judicial nominations on Wednesday:

Lori W. Will was confirmed as Vice Chancellor in the Delaware Court of Chancery, and will replace Vice Chancellor Kathaleen St. J. McCormick, who was confirmed as Chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery. Will is a partner in the Wilmington office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on corporate, commercial, and federal securities litigation.

Reneta Green-Streett was confirmed to serve as Superior Court Judge in Kent County. Green-Streett will be the first Black woman to serve on Superior Court in Kent County and is a partner at Morris James, where she manages the firm’s Dover office. Her practice focuses on representing plaintiffs in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases.

Commissioner Katharine Mayer was confirmed as Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Since 2016, Mayer has served as a Superior Court Commissioner. Previously, she was a partner at McCarter & English, where her practice focused on bankruptcy and restructuring work, as well as product liability defense.
