First State Students Earn Innovative Honors at National STEM Conference

Students and advisors from across the State of Delaware joined more than 8,000 national members at the 45th Annual Technology Student Association (TSA) conference that was hosted in Louisville, Kentucky last week. The First State delegation represented 130 of Delaware’s finest student leaders from Caesar Rodney High School, Cab Calloway School of The Arts, Fred Fifer Middle School, H.B. duPont Middle School, Indian River High School, Magnolia Middle School, MOT Charter High School, Newark Charter School, Newark High School, Odyssey Charter School Postlethwait Middle School and Sussex Central High School.

 

Students competed in individual and team events such as: Architecture; Podcasting; Biotechnology; Board Game Design; Career Prep; Coding; Cybersecurity; Data Science and Analytics; Video Production; Dragster Design; Extemporaneous Speech; Fashion Design and Technology; Flight Endurance; Foundations of Information Technology; Future Teacher; Manufacturing Prototype; Microcontroller Design; Photographic Technology; Solar Sprint; Software Development; STEM Animation; Structural Engineering; System Control Technology; Technology Problem Solving; VEX Robotics; Video Game Design; Virtual Reality Visualization (VR); and Website Design and more.  Honors for the Delaware delegation include:

Future STEM Leaders Earn 341 Medals with Honor to Represent State at National Conference

Nearly 700 middle and high school students participated last week at the 45th annual Delaware Technology Student Association (DETSA) State Leadership Conference that was hosted by the University of Delaware’s College of Engineering. The conference opened each day with a session led by the state officers of Puiyee Kong and Chuiyee Kong (Caesar Rodney High School) and Sanjana Medisetty, Anaum Allimulla, Kate Li and Anusha Devisetty (Newark Charter School) and the national officers of Sami Vallury (MOT Charter School) and Samra Iqbal (Caesar Rodney High School).

At the conference, students earned 341 medals in 49 contests such as: architectural design; biotechnology; coding; cybersecurity; digital video production; dragster design; engineering design; flight endurance; fashion design and technology; forensic technology; geospatial technology; inventions and innovations; mechanical engineering; medical technology; STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) animation; photographic technology; robotics; structural engineering; system control technology; website design; video game design and more. Eligible students qualified for the National Leadership Conference, which will be held June 21-24, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Delaware Technology Student Association (DETSA) is a career and technical student organization dedicated to students who are interested in pursuing their future in a career in STEM. This year nearly 3,421 members had the opportunity to participate in career focused competitive events, take part in community service, and become leaders of the organization at the school, state, and national level. DETSA incorporates curricular and co-curricular experiences to emphasize the importance of knowledge, leadership, skill development, and teamwork.

Delaware STEM students honored at national student conference

Students from 16 schools represented the First State at the National Virtual Technology Student Association (TSA) conference in June.  Finalists competed in events such as computer-aided design; chapter team; coding; cybersecurity, debating technological issues; essays on technology; forensic technology; foundations of information technology; junior solar sprint; leadership strategies; tech bowl; on demand video; video game design; website design and more. The virtual conference included nearly 7,000 individuals from across the United States participating in advanced Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM); leadership; and service-focused events.

Highlights include:

  • 141 students representing 16 schools qualified to represent Delaware at national STEM conference.
  • Delaware students earned 21 top ten national honors.
  • D Morelli of Sussex Central High School and Norman Pierce of Fred Fifer Middle School were honored as National Chapter Advisors of the Year.
  • Priya Gupta of Caesar Rodney High School and Divita Taduvayi of MOT Charter High School were inducted into the TSA Technology Honor Society.

Delaware TSA students bring home awards from national conference

Top state medalists represented Delaware at the National Technology Student Association’s (TSA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) conference held at the National Harbor, Maryland Friday through Tuesday.  Students competed in high technology and in leadership contests such as computer-aided design; dragster design; engineering, inventions & innovations; leadership strategies; manufacturing prototype; medical technology; on-demand video; promotional graphics; structural engineering; system control technology; video game design; robotics, website design and more. The conference was the largest in the organizations history, with more than 8,500 individuals in attendance from through the country and world. It was also the largest national attendance in Delaware TSA history with 147 participants.

  • Apuroop Mutyala of MOT Charter School elected to serve as Vice-President of National TSA
  • Delaware students earned 14 top 10 national honors
  • Kathy Sheehy of Dickinson High School (Red Clay Consolidated School District) awarded Chapter Advisor of the Year

Top state medalists from throughout Delaware represented Delaware at the National Technology Student Association (TSA) conference held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 22-26, 2018.  Students competed with national finalists in events such as computer-aided design; dragster design; engineering, inventions & innovations; leadership strategies; manufacturing prototype; medical technology; on-demand video; promotional graphics; structural engineering; system control technology; video game design; VEX robotics, website design and more. The conference was the largest in TSA history with more than 8,000 individuals in attendance from across the country. It was also the largest national attendance in Delaware TSA history with 127 members participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM); leadership; and service focused events.

  • Delaware students earned eleven (11) top ten national honors
  • William Greider of Cab Calloway School Of The Arts and Jeff Epting of Gauger-Cobbs Middle School were honored as chapter Advisors of the Year
