Inmate dies at Sussex Correctional Institution

David Boyce, age 46, an inmate at Sussex Correctional Institution, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Boyce was pronounced dead at Beebe Medical Center at 11:04 a.m.

Boyce, of Bridgewater, MA, was serving a life sentence imposed in Massachusetts for murder. His sentence effective date was April 13, 1990. Boyce was transferred to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction on January 23, 2013 through an interstate compact agreement with Massachusetts.

Boyce’s body has been turned over to the State Division of Forensic Science, as is standard procedure. The investigation is being handled by Delaware State Police as an apparent suicide.

Foul play is not suspected.
