Training Workshop Planned for Community Associations

The Delaware Department of Justice’s Common Interest Community Ombudsperson Advisory Council and the Justice of the Peace Court, with support by Community Associations Institutes will lead a day-long forum in Sussex County designed to assist the formation and function of local residential organizations.

“Introduction to Community Associations” will cover such topics as the role & responsibilities of the directors, officers and owners, communication with the association members, handling meetings and volunteers, fundamentals of financial management, creating and enforcing association rules, conflict resolution and collection of delinquent Assessments without using a lawyer.

The event will take place Saturday November 5, 2016 at the Sussex County Association of Realtors’ Conference Center, 23407 Park Avenue in Georgetown. The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The registration fee is $35 per person and is open to the first 50 people with a paid registration. The fee will include continental breakfast, lunch and a course book with handout materials.

The General Assembly created the Office of the Ombudsperson for the Common Interest Community in the Department of Justice in August 2014. The purpose of the Office is to assist members of residential “common interest communities” to understand their rights and responsibilities and where possible, to resolve disputes without use of the judicial system.
