DOVER – DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife will host an Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) public hearing on a draft amendment to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Tautog at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 28 at DNREC’s Lewes Facility, 901 Pilottown Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

The draft amendment proposes a change in tautog management, moving away from coastwide toward a regional approach for managing tautog, with Delaware in a management region with Maryland and Virginia. Delaware anglers are invited to give their opinion on the regional recreational management measures proposed in the draft amendment.

In addition, the draft amendment proposes the establishment of a commercial harvest tagging program, as well as new goals and objectives, biological reference points and fishing mortality targets, and a stock rebuilding schedule.

The draft amendment can be found online on the ASMFC website. Anglers and other interested groups are encouraged to provide input by attending the public hearing or to provide written comment. Public comment will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, July 14, and should be forwarded to Ashton Harp, Fishery Management Program Coordinator, 1050 N. Highland St, Suite A‐N, Arlington, VA 22201; Fax to 703-842-0741, or email to aharp@asmfc.org, subject line: Tautog Draft Amendment 1.
