4 Alarm Fire Under Investigation in Wilmington

The Office of the Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating a four-alarm fire that affected several homes in Wilmington.
On July 2, 2026, shortly after 3:00 PM, a fire was reported in the 1500 block of Clayton Road, Wilmington. The Five Points Fire Company, along with multiple mutual aid fire companies responded to the scene. First arriving units found heavy fire at the rear of the residences. Due to the temperature, the fire reached four alarms, bringing additional resources to the scene. Several fire fighters were evaluated on the scene by EMS and New Castle County Paramedics. One fire fighter was transported to an area hospital for heat exhaustion. Six residences were affected by the fire, displacing 20 people.
Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. Investigators determined that the fire originated under a deck at the rear of one of the homes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The families affected by the fire are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Damage is estimated at $1 million dollars.
