Governor’s Weekly Message: Marriage Equality – Writing the Next Chapter in History

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | News | Date Posted: Friday, April 12, 2013

(Wilmington, DE) In his weekly message, Governor Markell talks about the current momentum regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage in Delaware and the important role young people play in moving the issue forward.

“The concept of discrimination is something our children first learn about in history class,” said Governor Markell. “They learn that, decades ago, someone’s gender or skin color had an impact on where a person could learn, work or even sit on a bus. Yet, as we unveiled legislation here in Delaware yesterday and continue to hear debates across the country regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage, it is evident discrimination still exists. We must use this momentum, this energy and this evidence of growing support to take another historic step toward true equality.”
Every Friday, the Governor’s office releases a new Weekly Message in video, audio, and transcript form.  You can view a copy of the Governor’s Weekly Message Transcript: Marriage Equality – Writing the Next Chapter in History.  The message is available on:
