Governor’s Weekly Message: Advancing Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | News | Date Posted: Friday, August 2, 2013

(Dover, DE) In his weekly message, Governor Markell shares information found in a blueprint report compiled during the year-long project he led as chair of the National Governors Association, which focused on increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

“[This report] lays out concrete steps states and businesses can take to provide opportunities that benefit both individuals with disabilities and companies that employ them,” said Governor Markell. “This includes making employment of people with disabilities part of a broader state workforce strategy; finding and supporting more businesses who hire people with disabilities; making states model employers of people with disabilities; and preparing youth with disabilities for the workforce. ”
