Attorney General Biden, Mayor Williams announce Wilmington community resource fairs

Department of Justice | Date Posted: Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Wilmington – Attorney General Beau Biden and Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams announced today that their offices have partnered to sponsor a series of Community Resource Fairs aimed at empowering neighborhoods by providing family-focused activities and opportunities for residents to connect with government agencies and community organizations.

“Strong communities provide safer environments for families to live and raise children,” said Biden, who recently formed a Crime Strategies Unit to combat crime on the local level. “Building stronger neighborhoods requires partnerships between residents, law enforcement and other government agencies, and community organizations.  Our free community resource fairs are an important way we’re acting to build and strengthen these partnerships by engaging with residents in their neighborhoods and providing safe and fun activities for local families.”

“As we look to build stronger and safer neighborhoods, it is important we remain committed to strengthening the relationships between government agencies and community organizations and associations. Through the City’s partnership with the Delaware Department of Justice, the Community Resource Fairs will help educate and energize our neighborhood and community leaders, so together, we can ensure our communities remain a safe place to live, work and play,” said Mayor Williams.

Each Community Resource Fair will take place from 1 – 4 p.m. on:

  • Saturday, August 2 at Kosciuszko Park
  • Saturday, September 13 at Brown, Burton, Winchester Park (also known as Prices Run Park)
  • Saturday, September 20 at Christina Park

During each event, residents will have an opportunity to connect on-site with staff from government agencies and other organizations to discuss resources they can utilize to improve their communities.  Informational tables will be staffed on-site to connect attendees to a wide range of state resources available through a number of organizations including:

  • Local civic associations
  • Wilmington Department of Parks and Recreation
  • The Attorney General’s Resident Mortgage Mediation Program
  • Delaware State Housing Authority
  • Delaware National Guard
  • Wilmington Department of Public Works
  • Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council

Each event will also feature a Moon Bounce and free food provided by Rita’s Water Ice and Grotto’s Pizza.
