Statement by Governor Markell on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Relating to Delaware Election Law

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | News | Office of the Governor | Date Posted: Tuesday, June 28, 2016

Dover, DE — The U.S. Supreme Court has let Delaware’s Elections Disclosure Act stand. Governor Markell issued the following statement:

“In 2012, I was proud to work alongside Speaker Bob Gilligan, Common Cause of Delaware, and many others to enact the first major update to Delaware campaign finance laws in 20 years. The Delaware Elections Disclosure Act closed loopholes that allowed anonymous campaign-related advertising and required prompt reporting of third-party spending on campaign ads. I am gratified today that the constitutionality of that law has been reaffirmed. Thanks to the Supreme Court’s decision, Delaware elections in the future will be more open and transparent.”
