DPH Shares ‘Preparedness Buddy’ Brochure To Help Delawareans Prepare For Emergencies

Winter weather can bring high winds, snow, ice, and extremely cold temperatures. Responding to those and other potential hazards — such as power outages, fires, floods, and disease outbreaks — is less stressful when emergency plans are in place. This is particularly true for adults and children with disabilities, seniors, and those with temporary or chronic health conditions, language barriers or any other issue that might make mobility difficult in an emergency. That’s why the Division of Public Health (DPH) is encouraging use of the Office of Preparedness’ “Preparedness Buddy Brochure.”



Emergency Preparedness Focus of Fifth Annual Public Health Symposium

More than 160 emergency preparedness stakeholders attended the fifth annual Public Health Preparedness Symposium this week at Delaware Technical Community College’s Terry Campus in Dover. The Division of Public Health (DPH), Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness Section, planned the event for representatives of federal, state, and local government, and non-governmental organizations as a way to enhance communications between DPH and its stakeholders.



Governor Markell Issues Limited State of Emergency for Sussex County at 5:00 p.m. Saturday as Tropical Storm Hermine Approaches Delaware

As Tropical Storm Hermine approaches Delaware, Governor Markell has issued a limited State of Emergency for Sussex County beginning at 5:00 p.m. today that allows public safety, emergency response, and transportation agencies to position resources in affected areas.



GOVERNOR MARKELL AND PUBLIC HEALTH URGE FLU VACCINATION

At the annual Division of Public Health (DPH) flu immunization clinic at the New Castle Farmers Market, Governor Jack Markell urged Delawareans age six months and older to get their annual flu vaccination as early as possible. Then he pushed up his sleeve to receive his own flu shot.



Delaware Emergency Management Agency Monitoring Joaquin

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) is monitoring Hurricane Joaquin, and is in communication with its partners at the National Weather Service, and the National Hurricane Center.
