Attorney General Biden Appoints Chief of Staff

Rhodes Scholar and Army Veteran joins Delaware Department of Justice under newly created post
Attorney General Joseph R. Biden, III has appointed Delaware native Ms. Jennifer D. Oliva as his Chief of Staff, a newly created position in the Delaware Department of Justice. As Chief of Staff, Ms. Oliva will be responsible for overseeing the Department’s Administrative Division, Public Information Office and all legislative and external affairs. Ms. Oliva, born in Delaware and raised in Millsboro, graduated from Sussex Central High School before being nominated by the late U.S. Senator William V. Roth, Jr. to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
“I am honored Ms. Oliva has decided to join my senior leadership team to help guide the Department of Justice in our effort to make Delaware an even better state,” Biden said. “The Department of Justice, and the people of Delaware, will benefit from her intellect, energy and commitment to service.”
Ms. Oliva graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1996 as a Truman Scholar. She was awarded the highly prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, one of only eight women to receive this honor in the Academy’s 200- year history. During her Rhodes Scholarship, Ms. Oliva studied at Oxford University where she received her MBA. Ms. Oliva then served as a Military Police officer with commands in Alabama and the United States Military Academy before retiring from the Army as a Captain.
In 2004, Ms. Oliva graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was an editor for the Georgetown Law Journal. After graduation, Ms. Oliva served as a law clerk to two separate United States Courts of Appeals: The Honorable Thomas L. Ambro, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and The Honorable Stephanie K. Seymour, United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Prior to accepting her post as Biden’s Chief of Staff, Ms. Oliva was an Associate with Steptoe & Johnson, LLP in Washington, D.C., working on behalf of appellate and white collar crime practice groups
