Attorney General’s Office Sponsors Community Shredding Events This Fall

Wilmington – As part of its ongoing efforts to prevent identity theft, the Attorney General’s Office is sponsoring three free community shred events this fall at locations statewide. Each event will feature on-site document shredding, and staff from the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division will be available to provide information and answer questions about identity theft and consumer fraud.  Consumers may bring up to three file-sized boxes of documents; emptied boxes will be immediately returned.

“Document shredding is a quick and effective way to protect your personal information and keep it out of the hands of identity thieves and fraudsters,” said Attorney General Biden, noting that a record 31,000 pounds of documents were safety destroyed during the spring 2011 consumer shredding events sponsored by his office.  “I encourage all Delawareans to take advantage of this free service, and to contact our office to learn more about guarding against identity theft and fraud.”

Identity theft can occur in a variety of ways, from email and texting scams to thieves’ rummaging through trash for bank statements, bills, and other documents that contain consumers’ information. Shredding these documents before discarding them is an effective method of fighting theft at its source.

Shredding events will take place at the following dates and locations:

Saturday, October 8
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Peebles parking lot at the Milford Plaza
650 N. DuPont Blvd., Milford

Saturday, October 22
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Boscov’s parking lot at the Dover Mall
1365 N. DuPont Highway, Dover

Saturday, October 29
Noon to 4 p.m.
Glasgow Park Community Day
Glasgow Park, Route 40 and South College Avenue, Glasgow

Saturday, November 12
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Frawley Stadium parking lot
801 Shipyard Drive, Wilmington
