Wilmington, Del. – Yesterday, Delaware honored the leadership, dedication, and achievements of women at the annual Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. This year’s inductees were Mary C. Dennison, a pioneering educator and founder of Girls Inc. of Delaware; Judith Drexler, the first director of Delaware’s Division of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families; Dr. LaVerne Harmon, the first African American woman to lead a Delaware college or university as president of Wilmington University; and Terri Kelly, former President and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates, who led one of Delaware’s most innovative global companies.
The evening featured speeches, formal recognition of the honorees, and highlights of their achievements. The ceremony was livestreamed so family, friends, and the public could watch and celebrate together.
“These four women have made a lasting difference in Delaware through their leadership and service. Their achievements deserve to be celebrated, and their example will continue to open doors for others,” said Governor Matt Meyer. “Congratulations to the Delaware Women Hall of Fame honorees for your achievements and contributions to our state.”
“It was an incredible privilege to recognize these inspiring women. Their stories of service, strength, and achievement made the evening unforgettable, and I am honored to have been part of a celebration that reflects the very best of our state,” said Sherese Brewington-Carr, Director of the Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy. “The accomplishments of these women inspire others across Delaware to pursue their goals, lead with purpose, and create lasting positive change.”
“Delaware’s history cannot be fully told without recognizing the women who have challenged expectations, broken barriers, and created opportunities for others. The Women’s Hall of Fame Committee is entrusted with the important responsibility of ensuring these contributions are neither overlooked nor forgotten. This year’s inductees have left an indelible mark on our state, and their inclusion in the Hall of Fame is both a recognition of their extraordinary achievements and a lasting tribute to the paths they have paved for future generations,” said Brenda Wise, Chair of the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame Committee.
The event highlighted the impact of women whose vision, perseverance, and contributions continue to shape a stronger, more connected Delaware.
