The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating a fire that occurred on Friday June 20, 2025 located at 3000 Newport Gap Pike, the old Emily Bissell Hospital.
On Friday June 20th at approximately 4:30 pm The Millcreek Fire Company was alerted to a fire in the 3000 block of Newport Gap Pike. Upon arrival of the Fire Department, they found fire and smoke coming from the 2nd and 3rd floors of an abandoned building on the property of the former Emily Bissell Hospital. Mutual aid companies were requested to respond and assist with extinguishment.
State Fire Marshal Deputies were called to the scene and determined the fire to be deliberately set by unknown persons entering the building and ignited combustibles.
There was one reported Fire Fighter injury due to a medical emergency, the Fire Fighter was treated at the scene and transported to ChristianaCare Emergency, condition is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported.
Heavy fire damage to the structure was reported and estimated at approximately 15,000.
