Wilmington – A New Castle County man who shot another in the back on back on a Wilmington street in 2012 has received a long prison sentence for his crime, Attorney General Beau Biden announced today.

“This tragic and senseless crime reflects the defendant’s complete disregard for the law and the lack of value he placed in the life of another human being,” Biden said.  “It also highlights the deeply troubling and all-too-common reality that young criminals carry guns and are willing to fire a weapon at another person in anger.  We all hope that the lengthy sentence this defendant is now serving and the pain and suffering that his crime has caused to two families – the victim’s and his own – makes others think twice before resorting to violence.”

On July 20, 2012, following an argument over a dice game, Kasheif Dollard pulled a handgun and fired at 22 year-old Kevin Waterman, striking him in the back as the victim walked down East 10^th Street in Wilmington.  Waterman died at the scene from his injuries, leaving behind a two year-old daughter.  After the crime, Dollard fled the State, was arrested in Philadelphia by US Marshals in January, 2013 and was extradited to Delaware.  Dollard, age 27, of Bear, DE, pled guilty to one count of 2^nd Degree Murder on January 28, 2014.

This morning, Superior Court Judge M. Jane Brady sentenced Dollard to 30 years in prison.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Andrew Vella.
