The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating a Building Fire that occurred this afternoon in Newark, DE.

At approximately 2:30 this afternoon, The Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company of Newark was alerted to a building fire in the Southgate Garden Apartments building 18. Upon arrival the Fire Department found smoke and fire coming from the roof of the building. The fire quickly escalated to three alarms bringing multiple Agencies to the scene to assist with extinguishment and overhaul.

State Fire Marshal Deputies along with the ATF were called to the scene and are currently investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

The occupants of the building all exited safely and no injuries were reported. No Firefighter injuries were reported. Approximately 20 plus residents were displaced by the fire and The Red Cross was on scene assisting those residents. Damage to the building is estimated at over one million dollars.
