DNREC has updated Delaware hunting guidance concerning direct supervision for 18- to 20-year-old hunters after a state Supreme Court ruling struck down a lower court decision that had allowed 18- to 20-year-olds to hunt without direct supervision when using a range of hunting firearms.

DNREC is again offering full-time, paid internships for college students and recent graduates. The internship program enters its third year with expanded opportunities in several areas. Up to 20 interns in various roles will be hired for positions that touch an array of environmental livelihoods, including: environmental finance, engineering and compliance, marketing communications, environmental research and education, community and volunteer engagement, water quality research and regulations, strategic planning, government administration, and data science and statistics.

DNREC, which has hosted three regulatory review public hearings this week as required by Delaware Code, announced it will host a fourth regulatory review meeting, a virtual forum providing additional opportunity for the public to engage in the regulatory review process while allowing DNREC to gather more input on whether the regulations subject to review will either be amended or possibly eliminated. The forum will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. Public participation is encouraged, as the forum is to feature live comment as an option as DNREC solicits more regulatory review input.
Limited Open Burning of Brush, Branches and Limbs Allowed in Delaware Until May 1

DNREC reminds the public open burning of materials such as tree limbs, brush and branches is allowed until May 1 – when the state’s annual open burning ban takes effect and continues through Sept. 30.

Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn M. Garvin has announced the appointment of Matthew Ritter as director of the DNREC Division of Community Affairs – a DNREC division that spans community-related government service services sections, including the Delaware Natural Resources Police Environmental Crimes Unit, the DNREC Public Affairs team, and the Offices of the Community Ombudsman and the Small Business Ombudsman.
